Sora is a black Labrador Pitbull mix with a heart full of love. She had arrived at Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California, almost four years ago. Her previous owner had surrendered her, and ever since, she had been waiting.
Valley Animal Center – the largest no-euthanasia shelter in the area – took her in, and the staff showered her with love, but it wasn’t the same as having a family.
Day after day, people would walk past her kennel, barely giving her a glance. It was heartbreaking. Sora was sweet, friendly, and full of hope, but that hope started to fade as the days turned into weeks, then months, and eventually years. 900 days. That’s a long time for any dog to wait.
But that happiness was short-lived. Less than 24 hours later, Sora was back. Returned.
