Abandoned Senior Dog Discovered in Park Bathroom with a Sad Note from Her Owner and Visible Signs of Neglect

Kanza K.

Ladybird, an eight-year-old black Lab, was put in the situation she can only dream of – most dogs would never be able to imagine. Found in a park bathroom in Destrehan, Louisiana with no other explanation than a makeshift note from her owner who lived hand to mouth.

The hardest decisions we make are often out of love. This was the case for Ladybird’s owner who had already spent nine golden years with her. They had traveled together from the time she was a little over six weeks old — on road trips and camping all around the countryside.

But then things in life went bad. But everything changed when her owner lost their home in Louisiana. He was in a shelter, scrounging to return with Ladybird at his side to North Carolina.

The Heart-Wrenching Goodbye

He had no car, no place to stay; it was a hell of a choice. He abandoned Ladybird overnight in a public restroom, planning to come back for her the next day. He asked whoever found her to be nice, and even laid out water for her in his note.

He came back the next day, only to find that Ladybird was missing. It was then that panic began to set in — he called animal control, who told him she’d been picked up and brought to the St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter.

A Community Comes Together

While in the shelter staff heard about Ladybird’s story and wanted to offer their help. It was clear to them there was a connection between Ladybird and her human, so they jumped into action. Ladybird was taken to the Virginia Beach SPCA with help from them.

Once there she got a well deserved bath and some pampering, her reward from being such a brave girl? A delicious pupachino!

The Road Home

But when the story of Ladybird went viral, different groups involved with animals joined together to bring her back home — in North Carolina. Money was raised to fund her flight home and she was provided with medical treatment and essentials for the travel.

Its heartwarming the scene where Ladybird meets back up with her grandmother when she finally arrives home. They hugged and beamed.

Meanwhile, her owner later wrote to say that he and Ladybird were doing alright and thanked everyone for their kindness during such a difficult time.

And for those wondering, Ladybird is doing great with her new family in North Carolina! However, we did get a lot of questions about her human down in Louisiana and want you all to know he is doing great and so glad Ladybird is back home,” the VBSPCA team wrote on Facebook.

Ladybird’s story ended happily ever after all, due to a dedicated team of rescuers and the community that truly cared. More than anything, it reminds us that we still have light in the world and kindness to pass on even during our darkest days.

The Power of Love

It follows the journey of an unordinary sort of rescue – a breed near extinction, the Ladybird. A love story against all odds. Her owner left her there in the bathroom out of desperation but also, from a place of love and wanting to protect her.

Ladybird’s rescue demonstrated how gaps created by terrible circumstances can be crossed by compassion at every step. Each of you who bathed her, who started funds to get her home helped rewrite this dogs fate.

In a world where so many stories like Ladybird’s go unheard, his offers hope. It shows that, even when times are hard, we can always count on others to be there to lend a helping hand.

The unity between humans and their pets is impenetrable; it belongs to love and trust. Ladybird, a positive story reminding us that wherever things go to hell, there is a second chance in the sun where warmth and tenderness exist — this time delivered by a faulty high school.
