Dixie had only ever wanted a home and a human to love.
That dream finally came true in 2019, when she was adopted into a loving family out of a New Jersey shelter. For three entire years, Dixie lived a great life. She strolled in the park, hunted the fresh scents off new food chains and simply played with her pawrents.
She ended up in a shelter again, but her dream was cut short in 2022. Her carers were devastated by the reason for her sad return.
Three Years Later, Dixie Went Full Circle
Aside from never having a full tail, the poor doggo girl adapted easily to her new life after being adopted after an older woman took her in from the Associated Humane Popcorn Park Shelter in New Jersey. Dixie had been doing great up until her owner was forced to leave with a friend temporary and that turned out to be the beginning of the end for Dixie.
While they were there, Dixie unfortunately got into an altercation with another pet in the room. Unfortunately, she ended up back at the shelter where she was adopted from.
The shelter wrote on Facebook: “She was in the temporary care of a friend and met with resident pet trouble so 3 years later, she was back.”
That realisation was even more tragic when in only three years, Dixie achieved an astonishing full-circle life trajectory.
But this time, she was no longer the puppy seeking her first opportunity, but a dog with a far more limited prospect of finding another home – having been born in AHPPS back to start homing dogs once again.
Dixie could not live with any other dogs, according to The New Jersey shelter. Other than that, though, this smiling Lovebug is pretty perfect!
Dixie has literally everything you can ask for: She is housebroken, well-behaved, gentle, affectionate, good on a lead and your playful loyal loving very sweet. “Because she needs a pet free home, she seems to have been overlooked time and again,” they said.

Dixie was running out of time with each passing day, but then one day all that changed – again!
Finally, The Perfect Family
A couple who’ve recently lost their pet and were looking for a replacement came to one of the AHPPS events, the rest is history!
Dixie was the perfect pet for them and they fell in love with her immediately. That decision was maybe easier than expected as the three fell in love with each other within seconds of meeting.
“For Dixie and I, they all clicked like peanut butter and jelly And finally she has her dream home! In the update post, the shelter continued: “She is playing with her new toys, sleeping in her own cozy dog bed and just hanging out in a house of her very own as you can see from the pictures.

And so just like that, Dixie found her forever family — the one she’d been waiting on for exactly one year and eight months.
Having spent all those nights in a little box holding out hope — we can say this girl has truly found her home!!
Dixie’s new owners regularly update the shelter with her daily slactivities. She is already loving her new toys, her new dog bed and a nice couch.
Above all else, Dixie maintains a big eerie smile on her face in the guise of a pure image of nothing but happiness. And, that was really all her caregivers could ask for!
