How do you ever say goodbye to someone you love?
The answer is: you don’t!
No matter how hopeless it feels or how knowing in your bones you are that you never see your favourite person again through the LIFE and LOVE … part of you knows that love is eternal.
At least that is what Canela would say, if she could talk!
This grieving puppy was said to be the hardest goodbye, as she recently had to say a emotional goodbye to her eternal friend Vaca.
The pair’s final video is heartbreaking, and has left the internet in tears!
Heartbreaking Moment
They knew each other from childhood and were good friends. Vaca, now two years old, was rescued in chains and being kept in poor conditions before her current owner Natalia Alvarez found her.
She was in very poor condition, underfed and living in filth. Vaca was chained for two years, then her owners decided to chain another dog up as well — Canela.

Along with her mom, Natalia years ago cultivated friendships with the owners and dogs of Vaca and Canela. She had one sole aim — for those poor little dogs to have a second chance at life, and she achieved it.
Decades worth of school lunch leftovers and cleaning the dog kennel came down to one thing she had desired for her entire life – Vaca and Canela’s owner did the right thing and gave them to Daisy.
So, the real fangirl behavior came from Vaca herself – she was basically acting like a mom toward Canela. She nurtured her, tutored her socializing and etiquette around folk, she became the best shoulder to cry on you could ever hope for.
In a TikTok post, Natalia said: “I rescued them together and Vaca was like a mother for Canela.
Prior to Vaca, no human ever touched Canela like this. Her older sister is where she learnt everything there is to know in life.
Until I rescued her with Vaca, Canela was only human-handled ever once. Vaca just has to go when Canela goes for a walk. For years, she would panic whenever we tried to pick her up. In a TikTok video, Natalia said: Vaca was the only reason she trusted us.
Unfortunately, over a decade spending his days in a loving home, Vaca became ill. She was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2020, yet still persevered through the odds. Alvarez called her “a miracle dog” for how strong of a spirit she has.
That was until June 2024 when, aged 19, she finally could not fight any longer.
In her final moments, Vaca lay still on the red bed she loved so dear and that was to transport her across the rainbow bridge.
It was a final goodbye, signing off for good knowing her big sister was on the edge of life, Canela licked her face as though sensing that she would no longer be there.
Soon after, her heartbreaking goodbye to her best friend went viral and brought thousands worldwide to tears.
One person wrote: ‘Canela knows … Animals are much more smarter than we know’
Another added, “That ending on the red bed… That one broke me.”
Attempting To Get Over
Canela is still figuring out how to get through life without her sister. She is royally depressed — and struggles to do anything without Vaca.
“Canela is depressed she misses Vacá so much… Canela is such a great dog, one that has obviously had a hard time in her previous life and it makes me heartbroken to see Vaca miss her. Natalia wrote.
So Natalia is determined to do all that she can, in order for Canela to move on. For now, however, she is just focusing on being there for her pooch.
What we do know is that Vaca will always be remembered by Canela. And despite her being gone, this floof will love her forever and ever!
