The Day Laila’s Owner Gave Up
One day, Laila’s owner reached out to Sidewalk Specials, a rescue organization, asking for help with what he called his “aggressive dog.”
Rachael, the founder, and her team wasted no time and headed straight to Laila’s home.
When they arrived, Laila barked loudly at them, as if trying to scare them away.
The rescuers could see right through the noise – what they saw was a neglected, scared dog, hungry for love.

They gently sat next to her, offering her food and speaking in soft, calming voices.
To their surprise, Laila stopped barking.
With care, the team removed the heavy chain around her neck. Laila let out a deep breath, almost as if she knew her suffering was coming to an end.
Her owner admitted he didn’t know how to handle her fights with his other dogs.
When the rescuers offered to find Laila a new home, the owner agreed.
He wanted her to experience the love she had never known.
Rachael picked up Laila and promised her that this was the start of a whole new life.
Laila’s First Steps Toward Freedom

“It’s that power of belonging, I think. It’s like Laila belongs to Mary. It’s like there’s an invisible forcefield between the two of them. Like, it really is proof that it is the love. And I just feel like I’m almost like a matchmaker,” Rachael told in an interview.
Thanks to the endless love from her new family, Laila discovered how beautiful life could be.
Her face lit up with happiness, knowing she was cherished and finally home.
