The other day I read somewhere (and I wish I could credit this to anyone because it is such an accurate statement) that rescuing dogs is 50% sad and 50% relief.
If anything, it is true heartbreak when people discover the first abandoned or stray animal and then find out that so many dogs are suffering like this and want to help them all.
The second half is seeing a rescued puppy safe, knowing he’s going to a good home.
These are the ultimate moments anybody would wish for their pet, in this article just such a story of rescue where through one noble soul one dog was rescued from being killed and have been given a fairer shot at life.
Can’t Contain His Excitement — A Beagle
These days, giving a pet to the shelter and getting it euthanized because its condition has become too costly is an extremely common practice for many owners.
Gregory, the Beagle was no different. Before a man called Joe Kirk saved him, he was nearly euthanised.
Two days before he was due to be put down, he rescued him. This was honestly the best case scenario as Joe and his wife, Schenley have a non profit animal rescue called Hound Rescue and Animal Sanctuary.
It is located in Findlay, Ohio–where it focuses on rehoming abandoned animals and specifally doing foster care for elderly and non-adoptable dogs.
On Facebook, Schenley wrote: Gregory is one grateful and thankful Beagle! He KNOWS he is SAFE!
He is heartworm-positive and will be going through treatment, but he knows he is in good hands! Get him healthy and give him all the love he rightfully deserves and a good life!
Gregory’s New Start
After he was able to escape and with the help of the Kirks, they took him straight to a vet where they treated his heartworm disease.
Not long after his treatment, they had placed him on the list for adoption, and Gregory was not waiting much longer.
Someone came and knocked on the door — a family who wanted to adopt him. Shortly after, he moved to his forever home.
Now he is living with his new family and their other beagle brother.
We are regularly asked, how many dogs have we saved —Schenley expressed in a beautiful statement. The answer that I always come up with is, we saved another one. Another dog is safe and will receive all of the love and respect that he so deserves.
Because of you, one more dog will be well fed and get the veterinary care it needs. And another furbaby has a forever home. Nothing comes closer to bring a feeling this fulfilling than life itself.
And if there is, from this story, one thing we can take away from it as a human race that does apply to us all; never forget that just a little kindness goes a long way with dogs and you can always do more to help those that are less fortunate than yourself.
