Dog with Rare Short Spine Syndrome Left Outside a Shelter with a Heartfelt Note from a Loving Child

Kanza K.

In a world where countless dogs are abandoned, only a handful find their way to loving homes.
Often, this abandonment stems from a lack of interest, time, or sudden life changes.
But sometimes, it’s simply due to owners feeling overwhelmed, like in the case of Qwerty.

Qwerty was clearly cherished, but his unique short spine syndrome left his owners unsure of how to care for him.

Instead of seeking help, they left him outside a local shelter with a touching note.
When shelter workers found him, they were shocked by what they saw.
The note, penned by a child, read: “I love my dog. Please don’t hit him. It’s a boy.”

Roadogs Rescue Steps In

Immediately, the shelter reached out to Nikki from Roadogs Rescue in California, an organization dedicated to helping dogs with rare conditions find forever homes.
Upon hearing about Qwerty’s situation, Nikki was eager to take him in.
Though Roadogs typically has volunteers foster dogs, Nikki wanted to personally care for Qwerty.

She hoped to better understand his needs and give him the love he deserved.
Once at her home, Qwerty’s friendly nature shone through.

Despite his physical differences, he showed no signs of weakness or health issues.
He embraced life enthusiastically and adapted well among other dogs.

Qwerty loved going for walks, playing at the beach, and chasing balls with his furry siblings.
While he couldn’t jump on the couch or run endlessly, he was content with his little life.
Nikki felt optimistic that someday he would bring joy to a new family.

Sadly, Cuda had passed away a few years earlier, but Julie and Scott were grateful for the chance to adopt another dog in need.

Settling Into His Forever Home

Qwerty adapted seamlessly into his new environment as if he had always belonged there.
His new family and dog siblings welcomed him with open paws.

“He will never be let go of again… He is ours now and forever,” they promised.
They expressed gratitude to Qwerty’s previous owners for leaving him at the shelter instead of abandoning him elsewhere.

“Still, I wish you could have gotten help,” they added. “Your dog was very, very lucky to be rescued. Not many are.”

Living His Best Life

Today, Qwerty enjoys an incredible life filled with love and adventure.
