I mean, dogs can find themselves in thoroughly unusual situations when they are left to their own devices.
They depend on us not only for love and snuggles but also to meet their most basic needs—like furry babies.
But things can go south fast when they find themselves suddenly without their humans. At worst, they might eat something they shouldn’t, get all shaggy because no one has been around to brush them, or (in the case of one intrepid little pup) stick their head in a jug!
Save From The Pitcher Value A Existence
And so I will share a beautiful rescue story with you. This is how they discovered what happened: One day in the summer, Stacy DeSantis of Thelma and Louise Dog Rescue received a tip about a dog who been wandering around with a jug stuck on his head.
Can you imagine? This poor American Staffordshire Terrier was seen near Jennings, Florida. Immediately, Stacy and her colleague Maria got to work.
They put a few traps around the area across from where the dog was seen, and even some of the local residents helped out. Now they tried hard to track him, but it takes 3 days for them to manage that.
Eventually, one morning, a gentleman called to say that the dog was in his dog’s kennel! Stacy and Maria ran over, as did Stacy’s husband Nick DeSantis, who rounded the area.
With a leash and some special scissors Nick had with him, they freed the dog from the jug. How on earth this poor sod had been in that situation for nine days! He was probably terrified and starving, but he stayed quite calm.
The two of them immediately broke down in tears as Maria and Stacy hugged out the joy. The words of Maria came then, as she stroked his head: “You have a new life now.”
With Love And Happiness
So they chose to name him Jughead—only makes sense! The simple part was getting him to the vet. Since he was negative for heartworms, but needed in-house vaccinations and a full treatment plan.
Jughead was the first to get a ride home from Maria. When she was home, everything went really well, but the second she left for work—he freaked out and destroyed a few things out of separation anxiety. Maria was initially annoyed but then melted when she realized what he had done.
It turned out, Jughead had an owner who went to a nursing home and left him behind. But they know this and thought Jughead might be better off with Stacy, since she had other rescue dogs. Well, that ended up being a great idea! Jughead quickly acclimated to the farm, and there were plenty of other dogs around for him to run with and burn off that energy.
He was a people person, totally food-obsessed. We had this complete comical experience where he was going for food inside a box, which in itself further illustrates how he ended up with his head stuck in the jug to begin with.
But Jughead was pure joy on four legs despite his little troublemaker ways. However, he still didn’t have a fairytale forever home to shine in.
He Was Destined To Stay
And two months later, it was time to get Jughead a forever home about him. He was on as Stacy posted about him from social media, but something felt off. That was when she realized how impossible it would be for her to say goodbye to the dog that brought so much happiness into her life since they rescued him.
But after a chat with her husband Nick, they chose to bring Jughead – aka little Juggie Wuggie – into their family for good. What a wonderful decision they made
Okay, so he hadn’t entirely learned his lesson and still had to poke his nose into everything, especially when there was food involved. At least now he had a family, people who would watch out for him and be in on the games.
Jughead finally got the happy ending he deserved after everything he’d been through. And frankly, isn’t that the ultimate dream of every dog? A safe place, unconditional love from their people, and the occasional snack.
This is the type of story that emphasizes both the impressive resilience of animals and how some people are kind enough to give that little extra. Fun Fact: An estimated 3.3 million dogs enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide each year Just like Jughead, most are in search of their own happily ever after.
So next time you hear of a homeless pet, maybe lend a helping hand – you could end up gaining a best friend.
