Lovable stray Pittie followed a kind man all the way home and decided to stay forever!

That sense of someone always following, sneaking up on, watching you — it’s more than just unpleasant.

I just hope none of us have to deal with that horrible situation.

But, one case of stalking happened to be quite innocent. I’d volunteer any time to be followed home by our four-legged friends!

That is what happened to one man in St. Louis. When he got off the bus, he walked back to his home, only to notice a dog following him: the same dog he had just seen at the bus station!

Here is the story of how Orville, the stray, strolled into a man’s home and landed a happy ending.

Sir, You’re Being Followed

Bus rides suck, you might say, but getting off the bus is the best part of a bus drive. As soon as a man reached his local bus station, he spotted a dog just sittng there as if he was waiting for someone. He had absolutely no idea he was actually!

The man said hello to the dog, gave a few pats and kind words, and walked away without a glance back.

But, mere moments later, a tickling sensation on the back of his neck prompted him to look over his shoulder. Something was odd. He thought he was being watched!

The same dog he saw at the station was staring at him in his front yard. Then it hit him: The dog had been tailing him all along!

Since the stray didn’t seem afraid at all, the man walked up to him and asked him to come into his yard. He seemed like he could have belonged to someone, but he was clearly in rough shape. Still, the man reached out and requested help through Stray Rescue of St. Louis.

When Donna and Natalie of SRSL got to the site, they were expecting an angry, frightened, and distrustful dog. They probably didn’t expect to see what they found at the man’s house.

The stray welcomed them with a big smile as if it were an old friend!

“He was an absolute sweetheart of a dog from the start,” Donna said. “We managed to leash him right up, and he went right with us.”

The dog they named Orville ended up being a really sweet pup. He tried to attract as much attention as possible. So, he hopped into the SRSL Jeep and called shotgun!

“He rode up near Natalie and I for most of the way back,” Lochmann said. “He was just a happy boy.”

The same situation was true at the SRSL vet hospital! Orville was very excited to meet so many fantastic new humans. When the pup arrived, he greeted everyone with a huge grin and approached them while knowing, as if, that everything was gonna be okay from now on.

The vetting staff assisted Orville in cleaning his wounds and arranged a sweet new kennel for him where he could lay a rest and recover from the life on the street.

Overall, Orville seemed to be a healthy 3-year-old Pittie guy. Orville would definitely gain back the weight he lost and feel more confident because of it while at SRSL!

So, Where’s The Happy Ending?

When I say that there’s a happy ending, it’s really true!

Orville was rescued in April 2023. His rehabilitation went well, but nobody really asked to adopt him. However, the workers at Stray Rescue of St.Louis never gave up their hope. They knew the perfect family members would come asking about Orville.

And the much-prayed-for miracle finally arrived!

Orville was adopted on June 10th! He spent nearly two months at the shelter, awaiting a promised happy ending.

Orville got a new hooman mommy, daddy, and little brother.

I’m positive Orville would finally savor freedom — and the sweet life of a family!
