Owners Leave Frail Elderly Dog at Vet Claiming They’re Done with Her Care

Kanza K.

If you really love your pet, then it means loving them in good times and bad, and leaving them to wander the streets is definitely on that long list of sh*ty things no one ever tells you come with owning a dog.

That such a large number of dog owners ignore their pets is so very sad. Dogs are not animals — they are your loyal friends that will never let you feel lonely. Regrettably, this devotion is not always shared by all owners.

Sky was a senior shelter dog who gave the best years of her long life to this family, and they turned their back on her when she needed them most. This is a heartbreaking tale of the onus that pet ownership carries.

The owner brought her to the vet and decided that they did not take care of it anymore. Once they left Sky stood there horrified and alone. Sky was rejected so suddenly, it left the hearts of those who witnessed that sight not only in confusion but also saddened by this compelling event. The only home Sky had ever known was lost in a split second.

Such a move, from its known surroundings to being sheltered, can and will traumatize any animal, but Sky was far younger than most when he found himself in this situation.

Shelter Life Begins

Sky ended up at Good Dog-Dog Talk Animal Rescue in Brea, CA. Like the shelter that granted sanctuary, soon she too would find her sacred escape and greener pastures. When the ten-year-old dog arrived at their facility, shelter staff were heartbroken by her condition.

Sky had obviously been through a lot, and her body bore testament to years of neglect. Single in a single eye and terribly underweight at thirty pounds, it was hence clear that Sky had been neglected.

The last days of the week-old child, already withered and frail, were recounted in a thin body that had barely known any kindness before its end. They believed she had been used as a breeding dog and left outside.

@gooddogdogtalk ✨ Meet Sky! ✨ This little lady was left behind when she needed love the most. At over 10 years old, Sky was found heartbreakingly skinny, weighing in at maybe 30 poundsat most. She's blind in one eye but doesn't let that slow her down! Sky may be tiny for her breed, but her heart is HUGE. She's the sweetest, most gentle soul, just waiting for her golden years to be filled with love and comfort. 💖 #SeniorDogLove #RescueDog #AdoptDontShop #adoptme #senior #seniordog #fyp #fypage #fypシ゚viral #foryoupage #foryoupagethis #rescue #rescuedogs ♬ To Build A Home – The Cinematic Orchestra & Patrick Watson

This suspicion was because her health proved it, and she showed symptoms of negligence. Spending days out neglected in the backyard, her allergies were obvious as compared to any other of our Shepherds. She was extremely malnourished and had nails so long I thought they could have been growing into her paw pads.

“Sky deserves better than being used for breeding and thrown away like trash,” a representative from Good Dog-Dog Talk Animal Rescue told Newsweek. Sky, on the other hand, was very shy and scared when he came to the shelter.

It is not hard to understand why she was hesitant at first, considering what we went through before. The staff fed her, and she naturally ate, though she was nervous about the people.

She realized in that small moment that this was maybe the first time she had truly been cared for. Sky was then given a relaxing bath, and outside, her keepers took her for some fresh air in the yard. She had been in it for a few days, but the fresh air and gentle attention were something else altogether.

Then, one day, she decided to approach the staff and lay her head in their laps, knowing that it was safe. It was the moment when Sky started a chapter of his life.

Adjusting to New Surroundings

Sky took shelter life in stride. As she slowly came to terms, so did her resilience. She adorably wags her tail and does a little Superman stretch in the mornings when she volunteers around to take you on your morning walk.

Driving back to base, the memories of those walks made Camilla smile at times. For half an hour or more, she would let her thoughts wander as happy companionship replaced despair. He loves snuggling up to them and basking in all of the love.

The kindness of the volunteers provided a healing that had been missing from her life for so long. A volunteer posted Sky’s story on TikTok in hopes of helping the sweet pup find a loving forever home.

The message spread of Sky’s need for one more loving family to join her cause with the power of social media becoming an ally. A video of Lily was also posted, where one volunteer commented, “She’s the sweetest most gentle soul just waiting for her golden years to be filled with love and comfort.”

She needs a loving home that will give her care that she never got before. It was more than a matter of home for her, it was about finding where she fits in. She is so loving and cannot wait to lay in her new parent’s arms for all of the love they have.

Sky, This is happiness for you–a new opportunity for a life full of joy and being loved every day.
