Unfortunately, that is not the case for many dogs, and they do not have the good fortune of having a happy, loving family. In fact, dogs of every breed, size and age are abandoned every day on the streets, left to fend for themselves.
It’s a depressing world we live in, but fortunately, for every bad egg out there, there are hundrds of amazing ones who truly do amazing things.
Many dogs are given a second chance at life thanks to shelters like the Lewis and Clark Humane Society.
This shelter located in Helena, Montana, is an open-door humane society that accepts more than 1500 animals every year. They have a 98% adoption statistic, and they keep all dogs for as long as needed for them to find their forever home.
Some of them find their forever home pretty quickly, but the rest, well — this shelter sort of turns into a lifelong home.” It sure beats living on the streets, but there’s nothing like having loving parents and a home.
Bubba Jr. was one of the long-time residents of the shelter. Sadly, it was home for him for 93 days.
He’s a handsome boy, but he’s also a Pitbull, and because of that, he struggled to be adopted.
In one of them, the shelter said, “People keep throwing Pitbulls. Pitbull? Pittie? House Hippo? Slobber Monster? LCHS doesn’t care. They see me for what I am. The loveable giant meathead of the dog world!”
This breed is always surrounded by a lot of negative stereotypes, that are definitely not helpful in terms of adoption.
This becomes a tricky situation since many rentals are less than pet friendly, and landlords tend to want to say no to any dog in their house/apartment, especially one that is disguised as a Pitbull.
This reduces the adoption prospects to the bare minmum, which is why dogs like Buba Jr. languish at a shelter for so long.
These dogs are sweet souls, and all deep down, are just waiting for their life of happiness to come knocking at their door… or kennel, for that matter.
In addition to having the cutest name ever, the shelter described Bubba Jr. thus:
“If we gave out trophies to all our dogs, Buba J’s trophy plaqe would read: “Most Likely to Kiss.” He enjoys running up to sneak kisses and cuddles to his human teammates. He loves his human teammates, always wanting to go for a walk or watch a movie with them on the couch. When he’s not honing his kissing skills, Bubba is working hard on his cuddling technique or scarfing down his kibble. He is really a one-dog team, he doesn’t require any dogs (or any cats, for that matter) stealing his thunder.”
He loved everyone at the shelter, but there was this one volunteer that Bubba Jr. was especially attached to. And it appeared that this volunteer was fond of Bubba as well.
Bubba spent 93 days at the shelter before a volunteer decided to end his battle to find a forever home, and adopt him himself. That day felt great for the entire shelter as a whole.
Everyone was so moved by this act that they chose to post about it on their Facebook profile, this time, they let Bubba say a few words…
Bubba’s diary entry touched everyone’s heart. Everyone was so delighted that sweet Bubba would finally be getting his happy ending, a cozy bed, snuggles, and toys to play with, and above all, a new dad who would love him completely.
This volunteer’s selfless gestures showed everyone just how important it is to give a chance to the shelter dogs that so desperately wait for someone to love them.
“Dear Diary,
Day 5 of my life in the new place—everything is soooo different… I love my life here—here is home. “I wake up every day with My Favorite Volunteer and everyday is the best day ever!”
And if you’re looking to adopt, please go to your local shelter and perhaps become someone’s Favorite Volunteer and brighten their day as well.
The problem is that there are so many dogs who need to be loved forever, and unfortunately, most of them can’t spend all their lives at a shelter.
