It’s always heartbreaking to see an animal struggling to survive on the streets.

Unfortunately, this is a reality many of us face every day. Recently, a German Shepherd in Montebello, California, caught the attention of kind-hearted people online.

He hadn’t moved from his spot under a tree for several days, and it was clear he needed help.

The Call for Rescue

As word spread about this abandoned pup, Isabel Gallardo, an experienced rescuer from Marinwood, jumped into action.

She couldn’t ignore the plight of this dog and rushed to the scene as soon as she could. However, things didn’t go as smoothly as she had hoped.

“When I arrived, an AC officer had just parked and I told her I’m here for him. We tried for several hours to catch him; she called for backup but this boy said ‘not today ladies’,” Isabel shared in her Facebook post.

Despite their best efforts, the dog was not ready to trust anyone just yet.

Team Effort

Isabel knew she couldn’t do it alone. Thankfully, she had a network of fellow rescuers who were eager to help.

One of them was Suzette Hall, a well-known rescuer who brought along a trap to assist in the rescue. With their combined efforts and determination, they finally managed to catch the dog, who they affectionately named Monte.

Thanks to the kindness of these dedicated individuals, Monte was saved from his miserable situation. Isabel took a moment to express her gratitude on social media.

She thanked “Laurie Mitchel for so many things she can’t list, her invaluable friendship and rescue experience,” and also “Laura Bobadilla for being the eyes in Montebello.”

In the end, Isabel decided to take Monte home with her and continue caring for him.

A New Lease on Life

Just a few days after his rescue, Suzette Hall updated everyone on Monte’s progress through her Facebook profile.

“Before and after,” she wrote. “This is the way it’s supposed to be, in a home and in a bed. Not dumped laying under a tree.”

Monte had been through so much in his short life, but now he was on the mend. Suzette explained that he was receiving treatment at Camino Pet Hospital in Irvine, California, where he was diagnosed with anemia.

The vet team wasted no time in getting him the care he needed. “He got a medicated bath, flea treatment, dewormed, bloodwork, injection of an anti-inflammatory plus the cytopoint and antibiotics,” she detailed.

Bright Future Ahead

Suzette continued to share updates about Monte’s journey. “After a good few weeks of no fleas and a proper diet, we will get him neutered and a dental,” she noted.

It was clear that with all this love and care, Monte would soon be “a whole new dog.”

The transformation was already evident; he was thriving under the attention of his rescuers. His future looked bright thanks to those who refused to give up on him.

In her heartfelt message at the end of her post, Suzette wrote: “We love you so much sweetheart. We won’t give up on you like they did.”
