A pregnant pup was wandering the streets of Oklahoma, hoping for a better life for her and her unborn puppies.
She dreamed of finding a home where they would be safe and loved. But when she was finally rescued, things didn’t turn out as she had hoped.
The shelter she ended up in was overcrowded, and she was placed on the euthanasia list. Feeling lost, the two-year-old dog didn’t know if she would ever get her second chance.
Saved Just in Time
This pregnant pup, later named Mama Baskin Robbin, was running out of time.
Her scheduled euthanasia was only minutes away when Sara, a foster mom, saw a post about her on Facebook. Knowing it was now or never, Sara teamed up with Pawsitive Tails, a Kansas City dog rescue.
At 8:30 a.m., just 30 minutes before the scheduled euthanasia, Sara contacted the shelter. Thankfully, the shelter received the call in time and promised to hold off until Mama Baskin Robbin could be rescued.
A Safe Haven
A volunteer drove five hours to pick up Mama Baskin Robbin. Even as she sat in the car, she didn’t realize she was finally safe.
When they arrived at Sara’s home, the soon-to-be mom got all the love and care she had been missing. Sara, a foster mom with over ten years of experience, prepared everything for the pup’s new life, including a cozy whelping box for her babies.
Mama Baskin Robbin finally relaxed, resting peacefully for the first time in a while.
New Life Begins
Three days later, after 18 long hours of labor, Mama Baskin Robbin gave birth to 11 puppies! Each one was named after a Baskin-Robbins ice cream flavor.
She was a doting mom, caring for and loving her babies. Under Sara’s care, the puppies thrived.
There was a brief scare when Mama Baskin Robbin started having tremors, but a quick trip to the vet revealed that she was anemic after her long labor. She received treatment and slowly began to open up, realizing she was finally in a safe place.
Now, Mama Baskin Robbin is happy, cuddling with her babies and enjoying her new life. Once her pups are old enough, they will be ready for adoption, and Mama Baskin Robbin will find a loving forever home too.
