Think about the small, sickly puppy that you found laying in a pile of garbage. So mum was off hunting and that is exactly what a bunch of rescuers came across when they were made in for a shock tracking down this poor little fella.
It was a puppy who was in very bad shape, with a broken leg and still attached to his umbilical cord. Some people can’t even begin to understand how could anyone leave behind such a helpless little being, and yet this is the story of many stray dogs.
As annoying as it sounds to be reminded of how many strays there are, having more people report dogs who need to be taken in can work wonders.
Well, in this case, the rescuers wasted no time. The puppy was rushed to a veterinarian for immediate care.
A Long Healing Journey
The surgeons at the clinic took immediate military action. As it turned out, the puppy not only had a broken leg, but also was suffering from hypothermia and hypoglycemia.
Adding to his misfortune, his umbilical cord was badly cut. They syringe fed him until he was stable and made a splint to keep his broken leg still.
They tried everything, but said they were concerned necrosis would require amputation in his leg. It was devastating news for all concerned.
Searching for Answers
They wanted to know more about this puppy’s past — the rescuers. She searched the area for anything that might lead her to his previous owner, but was unsuccessful.
The cruelty that puts him in this situation is disheartening to think about, but his rescuers never lost hope that he could be saved.
So the days passed when Sushi also had pants and to make matters worse, part of his broken leg fell off. The development made him susceptible to infection, so the veterinarians immediately put him on antibiotics.

This was no assurance that it would fix him, but they felt obligated to try everything in their power to bring him back.
Sushi was still too young for the type of surgery — he had to be at least 30 days old before they could look at that route. For now, however, they did have access to anything and everything that could treat his necrotic leg.
Hope Amidst Challenges
Day after day, Sushi seemed to be getting better. The medications took effect, but hard decisions about surgery still waited for everyone.
Sushi just opened up his eyes after 20 days of care and nurture. A bittersweet moment, for while he was awake he would still hurt and could not venture far yet.
The rescuers and vet team clung to the hope that a miracle would happen, and Sushi would survive to make a full recovery.
Looking Forward
Although we do not know the details of what happens next in Sushi story, one thing is for sure: he needs a second chance at life with lots of love and happiness!
Thanks to his new rescuers and medical team, however, there is hope that he will find someone who can offer him the life he truly deserves.
