The link between humans and their dogs is often labelled as adoring, un-conditioned till everlasting.
Dogs display undying loyalty, and hence that is what they also expect in return. Regrettably, not every owner returns the favor of love and many pets are left heartbroken when they get abandoned.
It was the story oh Seymour, a senior dog who had been with his family for all of his life until they decided to part ways — WITHOUT him.
He is betrayed, and not by Frank: there’s heartbreak in the story of Seymour. And his owners, who had pampered the ex-show dog for years anyway, decided to bring him into a shelter and euthanize massively.
Seymour sensed impending doom, and clutched on to his owner’s leg as though begging for clemency. One man, one innocent dog – that sounds like a lifetime film; doesn’t it and indeed was endearing to see. when all they can offer love, the amount of lowlife people would just kill them.
Those Most Heartbreaking Pleas
Seymour’s predicament was seen by Chrissy, a kindhearted dog rescuer in the shelter. She was there to pick up dogs for transport rescue with Forgotten, Now Family Rescue in Charlotte — their fifth trip.
But when she saw Seymour — a neglected and scared old guy barking in fright for his life, something inside of her told that woman to walk over towards him.
He was in awful shape; he had a layer of flea dirt on him and his infection smelled so bad that even from 4 feet away we could smell it.
@chrissyrescuer January 12th will be burned in my mind forever . It’s the day you came into my life. I begged your owner while dragging you hardly able to stand into the city shelter to please let me take you and him to a vet instead. Please don’t make him walk in that shelter. I knew you were so old and sick. The owner laughed in my face and said no. I watched you cling to his leg. 18 years you gave him and he was at the shelter to euthanize you. I looked at you standing there and signaled to the shelter team I would be taking you. I got you to my car and threw up everywhere from the blood and fluids leaking all over me. The smell of your infected masses. The smell of urine. I wasn’t sure how to even help you but I knew you deserved better than ending at the shelter. I took you straight to the vet for pain control and ready to make the decision to let you go in a loving place if needed. The more I sat with you at the vet I realized you had no clue what love was. I would touch you and your eyes looked confused. I decided we were going to find love before you left. Our amazing partner @goodvetscharlotte saw the same value in you. They agreed to doing your mass removal surgery. I simply wanted them off so you could feel what it’s like to drink water or eat without pain. I thought if I could give you a week of real life and love it would mean the world to me. You started your life being “adopted” 18 years years ago at the shelter and then they tried to take you back when you were of no use. I sat with you the first week and thought just how much I would give to have had you the 18 years, you are amazing Seymour. The days turned to weeks. I am in amazement that today we celebrate 6 months with you. I love you to infinity and beyond my sweet old man. You wait for me at the door. You “yell” at me for cookies 24/7. I can’t imagine life without you. Every family event your front and center in your pjs. Every puppy that comes in you play police like a true Pappy. Seymour I knew you needed me that night but I had no clue how much my heart needed you. we have become best friends and I am yours and you are mine! Happy 6 months Seymour🫶🏻 #rescue #hospice #pittiesoftiktok #myguy #dontleaveme ♬ You and Me – Eldar Kedem
Chrissy reported to The Dodo, “He was FAKE filthy with flea dirt and the stench from his infection could be smelled in cleaning into the hall.”
His look, as he tightened his grip on the leg of another human being — please don’t take me; his eyes—they seemed sadder than I’ve ever seen a dog’s sad eyes. It was a truly sad sight, reminding of how abandoned pets are left in the lurch.
Finding out that Seymour had been part of his family for eighteen years and then forgotten crushed Chrissy.
She swore to alter his destiny and made up her mind that she would pack him up right alongside of her. Her determination to assist Seymour started a different chapter of his life.
A New Beginning
Chrissy and colleague Carcy pleaded with Seymour’s owner to let them take him for treatment at a vet. This was one of those situations where the owner finally caved, reluctantly at first.
When he was gone, Seymour would stand there alone, wondering what had happened. A clear indication of how some animals are thrown away when they become a burden or need special attention.
As soon as she could, Chrissy reached in for him, letting Seymour know that he was not alone any longer. He was surprised by her touch, so gentle compared to what he had never relished.
Chrissy took him in as a “fospice” pup — or foster hospice arrangement, because of the growths and masses all over his body to make sure he received proper care. Love and comfort in old age process to animals is a crucial element as seen in this decision.
Healing and Love
Seymour was operated on to remove the masses, and he has been recovering at Chrissy’s home. Seymour was taught what a loving home really feels like by Chrissy’s family that surrounded him, children included with love and care.
It was truly amazing to see the turn around in his attitude as he learned to trust and love back. At the outset, Seymour was not supposed to live long at all but because of love he had more time.
He finally broke a smile saying yes to both wincing, “We got an opportunity it’s going to be very likely short but even 2-3 days are worth the end of his hospice life. But here he is providing me with 13 more months to go,” Chrissy said.
It was completely surprising, so it goes to show just how far love and care can go for the life longevity of an animal.
A Life Transformed
Formidable was the change of Seymour. Instead of a family sending him to shelter where he would have ended up dying in the next 24hrs due, they took him into their home. He was a kind soul and sweet kid that everyone loved. The dog was thriving in a world of love and company once ignored.
Thanking the couple for “such a wonderful gift,” Chrissy said, Chloe and Freddy were “old souls” who would undoubtedly impress in life — pledging to treasure each moment they had with Seymour.
My heart was truly meant to be and I happened to be in that place at the time,” she added. “ Her testimony also captures something of the fortuitous causes and effects in which their lives began to intersect-can be altered for good.
But today, Seymour calls Charlotte, North Carolina home and is loving life with his new family. He has found forever- no fricking way you can tell him otherwise and in return, he is shown what love looks like towards a broken soul.
