Based on what I imagine dogs would say if they could, happiness is probably the closest thing to having an amazing family, and so much love comes from the people who take care of them in a place where they are safe.
Sadly, too many dogs never get to taste the joy they all deserve.
One of over 90 sweet shelter pups pawing their way to the East Coast in hopes of meeting their forever parents and a place to call home is Chiquitita — a 12-year-old gal who travels light, as you can see!
For over 650 days, she has waited for someone to pick her as the final piece to complete the puzzle of one of their biggest life dreams – building a family.
Chiquitita’s Story
It has not been an easy road for the pup. Heartless individuals forced her to be a bait dog in a dog fighting ring. Chiquitita was taken into a shelter after being rescued.
Doggo was scared and needed time to get over her past. He also had arthritis.
Space was limited at the shelter she was in, and unfortunately, this little doggo’s number came up on the euthanasia list.
Fortunately, an alum staffer at the shelter contacted Watauga Humane Society in Boone, North Carolina to save Chiquitita’s life.
The doggo was rescued by Watauga Humane Society.
But when the shelter staff first met Chiquitita, they knew this sweet girl was going to take a bit of love to get over her crippling fear.
The staffers loved her so much and hoped she would soon reunite with her forever family. Chiquitita needed the exact opposite of that shelter environment.
Shelter life was not no place for Chiqui. She was disturbed by the sounds; the floor felt too slippery beneath her paws to relax, and though she had been napping well that day, she kicked up a storm. The first two weeks here, she just hung out in our admin offices while getting used to her new surroundings,” Watauga Humane Society posted on its Facebook page.
She needed a place to call home, parents who would love her and prove to her that she was worthy of love.

Fortunately, a lovely couple took her into foster, and they showered them with so much love that she learned to banish her fears. Her foster family fell in love with the adorable pup.
Chiquitita enjoyed snuggling on the couch with them and riding in the car. The caring her foster family provided allowed her to flourish as a happy pup. Chiquitita was top of the world.
To improve her chances of finding a furever home, her amazing fosters taught her to walk on a leash and took her to events. So much so that they sometimes surprise kind strangers during their walks with Chiquitita by showing them her photos.
What a cute little puppy, but Chiquitita still held out for her happy ever after.
The shelter inkling that the only articulation basis the pup waited so prolonged was that she did not get as of well with another animals. Must be only pet in the home!
When Chiquitita ‘s adoptive family was forced to relocate to another flat, the pooch went to live with yet another foster family.
The Pup Experiences A Let Down
Chiquitita won over her foster family with her lovely nature. That cuddle bug had so much love to give and she never let any of her fosters leave without being covered in kisses.

The staff back at the shelter were so happy for her, that they cried! After spending 650 days waiting for a forever home, they were certain that their girl found her fairytale.

However, a couple months down the road her family gave Chiquitita up because they werent able to care for her properly.
There is the right home for every shelter pet and there is exactly the wrong home too, but we believe strongly that 1dq9d. The shelter wrote, “Not every match is a two peas in a pod.
The shelter in North Carolina requested that the Facebook community avoid shaming the family who returned Chiquitita to the shelter (returning a pet is never an easy decision).
Despite having to face some heartbreak, this cute canine never lost hope of meeting her forever humans.
We sincerely hope Chiquitita finds the happiness that has alluded her for so long.
The sweet girl can find herself in a family that can spoil her with all the love.
