What dogs are capable at doing always blows our minds.
Just when you feel like you are onto them, they bring out another trick and throw in a wrinkle or two just to keep us from getting stale!
But one particular chocolate lab, Stella, perhaps didn’t know when to quit one day.
She owners noticed something was off with her but positive no clue what. After some time, they finally felt the need to take her to an animal clinic and what followed had left them shake with disbelief on this furry lady 🙂
Hold on, no way is that what I think it is?
It was bad enough for her owners to find out about Stella being unwell. There were no prior warning signs; she had never shown any ill effects in the past, so when she began feeling under the weather all of a sudden, it came out of nowhere.
Without delay, Stella was on her way hours later to Cochrane Animal Clinic and waited for her x-rays.
Her owners, nervous for the possible outcomes, could have never guessed what Stella’s X-rays would show. And they delivered the bomb shell news!
Because it was so unusual and almost never seen, the vet staff was somewhat cynical about this Labs condition.
Immediately, and for a few moments after that he was bombarded with questions on assumptions they found hard to scale from…
How could this happen? Is this real?
And that just opened the questions there…
In the end, it was indeed what they feared! She was the silly Lab girl whose recently off-kilter personality stemmed from having eaten – wait for it – eight underwear!!!
In an Instagram post, the Clinic said: “Oh Stella what have you gotten yourself into.
That’s right! No biggie, just ate a whole eight pieces of undies that were probably making her feel sick.
All this led to nothing more than routine surgery and a quick return to Stella’s home, so that was the good news.
STELLA GETS THE HELP SHE NEEDS “Thanks to Dr. Becky, Stella is getting better – and seriously questioning her choice of lingerie moving forward,” they continued.
Then Stella’s X-rays were captured on video by the clinic, and they went mega viral on Instagram, triggering thousands of funny comments!
“You read about them swallowing whole socks and underwear; is. that what. they swallow?!!” Another wrote: ‘And in the meantime you’re trying to worm a pill down them with treats and they manage to spit out just the pill.
One quipped: ‘Vet bills, $2,000; replace the undies, $15000’:
It is not unheard of for dogs to chew on underwear.
While Stella’s underwear lust is, like the best dog so many of us own, wholesome in its absurdity, dogs gnawing on underpants can be a sign of bigger problems.
In fact, the American Kennel Club states this type of behaviour will often appear during a dog’s teething stage. If that is not the case, it can be a bigger issue beneath, such as stress/anxiety or even an obsessive compulsive disorder.
But, with underwear (or any apparel for that matter) chewing on them is simply more common due to course boredom. As important as exercise is to these dog breeds, so is mental stimulation (particularly with the higher IQ pooches).
In other words, for your dog to not chew on your underwear — give him plenty of mental exercise.
Stella’s pawrents better watch their girl, we hope it’s not near that closet!
