Even though rescuing animals is super rewarding, sometimes it just breaks your heart.
When a woman named Faith Easdale saw a little pup sitting by a busy road wearing a pink dress, she took notice.
She figured the pup belonged to someone and was just waiting for them to come back.
But after a few days, Faith drove by again and saw the pup in the exact same spot.
An Endless Wait
Faith realized this sweet girl wouldn’t move because she thought her humans had simply forgotten her and would return any moment.
The pup hung her head low, sadness written all over her face.
Working with Dream Fetchers, a rescue based in California, Faith knew she had to help this dressed-up pup.
“I thought, ‘Oh no, poor little baby, sitting and waiting. So I raced out there and I didn’t see her. I always panic—praying they found [a] safe haven somewhere, but I continued to search. My friend met me and we started asking people in the area,” Easdale wrote in a Facebook post.
After asking around, a man told Faith he’d seen the pup hanging around for days and that she’d hide in the bushes when she got scared.
After checking every bush, Faith finally found the adorable pup.
“I walked quietly and there she was, the saddest sight. We very quietly set baby gates around and I went in slowly. She was so scared,” Easdale wrote.
Spending some time with her, Faith noticed just how sweet the pup was and quickly earned her trust.
“Once I got her settled, she actually crawled in my lap and gave me the sweetest kisses. [I] took off that filthy dress, gave her a nice dinner and soft blanket,” Easdale wrote.
A New Beginning
As soon as they got home, Faith gave her a much-needed bubble bath and checked for any obvious health issues.
Apart from her severely matted coat, she was a healthy, happy girl! Faith also looked for a collar or microchip but found none, so she wasn’t sure if someone had actually dumped such a beautiful pup.
“We rarely know the story. Usually, if there is an owner, they would have shown up by now. The area wasn’t good where she was sitting and waiting,” Easdale told The Dodo.
The very next morning, Faith took this sweet pup for a little doggie spa day. When she came to pick her up, she was absolutely stunned—the pup was unrecognizable!
Naming her Sugar, she was finally able to start her new life.
“I feel like this is the turning point so many times—like a little Cinderella story. Giving them a second chance is what keeps us doing this. Keeps pushing, hoping for better days,” Easdale wrote in a Facebook post.
Sugar is now searching for a loving foster home where she can relax and decompress. Faith is sure this adorable girl will find a forever home without any issues.
