As a former dog owner, the thing I regret never being able to offer was my German Shepherd another puppy companion.
In hindsight, being around us was not always enough; having a dog sibling is something we should have given him.
While this was a long time ago, I will never forget it because whatever the bond is between dogs, it is unique, and they deserve to have friends for life.
That is exactly what we will be seeing with these two chihuahuas, who were street dogs until they were rescued and given a new chance at life.
Romeo And Juliet
Back in October 2021, when Romeo and Juliet were discovered on the streets of Washington by rescuers from Fox’s Den, it was instantly clear to them that these two dogs were utterly inseparable.
The rescuers took them in and offered them a chance of life. If the dogs had been of a small breed, that would have been one thing, but these poor creatures were much smaller than normal as well—most likely due to malnutrition.
It’s unknown how long they had been outside, but that is immaterial now as their rescuers will do everything possible to help them put on weight.
Romeo had also been dealing with his share of health concerns. He became slower due to joint disease.
When the rescuers were searching for special adoptees, they did so on one condition. The two pups needed to be taken within a pairs because they were completely bonded
Separating them would just be mean, so the shelter decided to only place them together.
Until their new mom opened the door to adopt them both. There was much rejoicing about this, and the two puppies were now off to their new part of life together.
They Are Best Buddies
Although Romeo and Juliet enjoyed being in their new home in Washington, initially, the two were a little uncertain and frightened.
Which withered quickly when they came to know their new mum who baby-sat them. She soon realized Juliet was the more mischievous of the two of them.
But as soon as she tires out, they go back to Romeo and snuggle.
Now, one of the particularly special things about Romeo is that he is a tiny little dog, but he has an incredible appetite. He gobbles down his food at tremendous speed and occasionally nicks Juliet’s grub, too.
She tells him to stay away, but who’s to know if he will ever listen. That being said, the canine duo have a great friendship and their mummy has no regrets.
These pups, though considered senior dogs at 10 years of age, are very active and playful for their advanced ages.
This is just so heartwarming. Their mom is making sure they are being taken care of the best way out there, and I am really glad she had the chance to get through this, thanks to those rescuers who saved them.
