Woman Bought a House with a Spacious Yard for Her Velcro Dog but Discovered an Unexpectedly Sweet Reaction

A devoted dog mom who, when it came time to move, had just ONE priority … getting her sweet, super-scaredy, cat-loving Scout into houses with big backyards where he could run and play.

In an instant, she pictured Scout running around and playing in the ample new space. Finally, after much hunting, she found the right one. The house had a big yard that looked like it would be perfect for any young pup. Eagerly, she bought it and got ready to move in.

A Surprising Reaction

The day came to show Scout his new home. Eagerly, she took him out into the yard, envisioning him bolting away through every crevice and corner. But Scout had other ideas.

Scout backed instead of running and then looked back at her as if in surprise that all the space was open to him. She had so been looking forward to enjoying the yard, but this bundle of sweetness just wanted his girl.

Scout was the more relaxed of the two dogs and would have preferred to lay around than run. At first, his owner was a little taken by surprise at the way he reacted, but then I am sure he realised that this is part of what makes him so lovely. She caught this surprise moment on camera and posted it to Instagram.

A Universal Spaniel Trait

This video quickly went viral — as any dog sweetheart could relate to what was happening. Another wrote: “I have three, they will only play outside when we are with them.”

It seemed Scout was not alone in his behavior–it is a common characteristic among Spaniels. One person said: “Haha, funny that we have a spaniel clinger at home, but let him get the scent of something out in fields – he’s gone! We had feedback that whilst at home, Spaniels may be laid back but could go on a bit of an adventure when the scent caught them or they saw something worth chasing after.

An Adorable Bond

Another said: “We stayed in a holiday cottage with garden like this hence he never left me throwing it st my feet all day.” It highlighted the fact that Spaniels tend to want to stick close to their owners rather than strike out on their own.

Though her dog Scout had shown little interest in the yard before, she continued to be hopeful. She hoped that when she was so present in the space, he would come to enjoy it eventually.

His mum clearly enjoyed a lot of pretty walks with her little man Scout (all signs were pointing to absolutely happy times ahead full of grand adventures in their new home.)

Embracing Their Unique Bond

Scout is the perfect example of how every dog is an individual with its own likes/dislikes and personality. Dogs like Matilda may thrive with an expansive yard all to itself, but for others like Scout, the proximity of their human friends is simply the best.

That specific bond between Scout and his owner is what gives the relationship its unique allure. And as they make a life together, there will surely be tons of cherished memories to come.

There is Adventure to Come

Slowly but surely, the hope from Scout’s new owner is that, over time, he will shake off his nervous nature.

He has a large yard to explore and play in, although he is still adjusting to it. She will spend more time outside with the puppy, helping him burn off excess energy either by playing games or lying in the sun.

In the meantime, she is also going to think of some elements that are more enticing for Scout. Some toys flung about, or even an agility course laid out might entice him to be cool and adventurous outdoors.

Cherishing Every Moment

And — most importantly — that Scout is happy and feels secure in those surroundings. His owner values the time spent together- be it on the sofa relaxing indoors or heading into nature.

The move helped Sammy figure out what Scout needs to be happy: proximity. This realization has bonded them even more deeply. As long as they have each other, no matter where or doing what — I am sure both of them know they are complete.

Their adventure in this fresh home has only just started, and it holds an infinite number of good times for the family.
