Some doggos simply require a slightly longer period of adjustment for their furever abode. However, when that day finally comes, all those late nights and days spent sitting around praying and waiting for that opportunity become a thing of the past!
Take Major, for example! We have no idea why this pawesome boy has been at a shelter for more than a year, but now his person for life has finally come knocking at the doorstep!
That meant a long, long, tail hope wagging in the direction of potential parents, though the day eventually came, and this baffy black-and-white doggo simply couldn’t accommodate his excitement!
Rescued From Euthanasia
Major, the 3-year-old dog who became an instant darling of the Naperville Area Humane Society, had once lived at a shelter in nearby Quincy, Illinois, with his brother, Hilo.
The NAHS staff said both dogs would have been put down had they not been able to save them in time.
Major and Hilo are quirky and awesome spirits! They are both so outgoing and friendly to ever person at the shelter, and love to play games!
The NAHS team shared a video of Major and Hilo recently, showing off their personalities, and their more major qualities as well.
This weekend makes it a full 365 days at NAHS, and we still cannot comprehend why. He said, “We compiled this video of some staff and volunteers—those who know them best—highlighting what makes the awesome.
Overlooked for No Reason
Everyone at the shelter wondered why Major was passed over by every potential adopter, given that there was no reason why he could be overlooked for rescue! Major has always been both such an amazing and friendly doggo, but he has also been very well behaved and low-maintenance, too!
From Winston, the NAHS volunteer: He’s “the smartest dog here (don’t tell the others!).” Another volunteer, Jane, says, “He is such a lovable boy, everyone here at the shelter wants him to have his own home.

The Day Has Finally Come
On Wednesday, a whole 372 days from when Major arrived at the shelter those many months ago, a man came in! Jose, a semi-trailer truck driver, had recently lost one of his dogs when he brought himself and his family to NAHS to adopt another dog.

The staff knew right away who to show him — Major! The two just connected from the getgo, and once that connection had been made at the first meeting, that was it! Major was the one for Jose!
The staff at the shelter laid out a prepared and most touching goodbye for the longest resident of the shelter. Major was afforded the opportunity to say good bye one last time to each of his loved volunteers. And after he did — he hopped in the truck with his new pops!
Jose looked up to see Major cuddled behind him inside the truck window, so freaking adorable! He looked calm and apparently happy to find himself home in the arms of his furever owner. And that smile — my dog, what an adorable smile!
Never Ending Adventures
Although his address is now out of state in North Hollywood, Major is thrilled to accept any new adventures with his new poppys!
We just received an update on Major from his new dad saying that he is doing AWESOME! Major can now jump out of the truck on his own and loves to cuddle up in bed with his new owner each night at the cabin. NAHS Statement: “We are so happy to learn that Major is living his best life on the road”

He is Making the Most of it, Loving Each Day as a New Adventure! And most crucially — the dude just keeps smiling!
