A New Beginning
Kaitlin Devoto was excited but nervous when she decided to foster a dog. Honestly, she didn’t know much about the pup at all.
She said in an interview: “I didn’t know the gender or age. The first time we knew what she looked like was when she arrived in Cincinnati when I picked her up.”
At the pickup center in New York, Kaitlin laid eyes on a stunning red poodle. She noticed the dog seemed to be producing milk, which made her think about what that might mean.
“It’s not unusual to receive a puppy mill Momma who’s still lactating. When their puppies are weaned, moms are ‘no longer useful,” she explained.
The poodle looked like she had been through a lot, and Kaitlin was determined to help her. So, she took the sweet girl home, ready to provide some much-needed love and nourishment.
An Unexpected Arrival
Just four days into their new life together, Kaitlin woke up to something surprising.
When she checked on her new furry friend, she found a tiny puppy nestled in the dog bed!
The realization hit her: the poodle had given birth overnight without anyone knowing.
After a quick check, Kaitlin confirmed there was only one puppy. She sprang into action, wanting to ensure both mom and baby were cozy.
Kaitlin gathered some soft blankets and set up a warm space for them. When she looked at the little guy, he reminded her of a chicken nugget.
That’s how he got his adorable name: Chicky Nug! As for mom, Kaitlin had to come up with something that matched the theme. So, she decided on Mickey D.
Growing Up Fast
Time flew by, and Chicky Nug started growing up fast. He became a pretty playful little guy!
Kaitlin shared: “He loves to run around and do zoomies. And he’s very interested in biting toes and toys.”
Mickey D also started to come out of her shell. Her shy demeanor was fading as she embraced her new life with Chicky by her side.
Currently, this little family is still enjoying their time with Kaitlin. But soon enough, they’ll be off to their forever homes. The adoption process will be handled by Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue in New York.
While it’s uncertain if they’ve found their new families yet, there’s no doubt someone will want to adopt these cuties!
