JP was another delightful little dog who never failed to make his owner have the best day ever, every day!
They would be together all the time, hanging out and creating memories. However, when JP’s owner was deployed for military duty, they didn’t have anyone to adopt this sweet little pooch.
So far, JP landed in the loving hoomans at Bideawee Animal Shelter — a New York City-area animal rescue — where he stayed for some 1700 days.
This lovely boy was active and very happy, showering everyone at the shelter with love and affection but five years really is a long time for your average dog in a shelter environment.
Never Ending Stay
When JP first came to the New York City shelter, he was ready to meet all his new furry friends and human companions. But as years passed, JP was losing his steam.
All of the new friends he would have, became a big wait, for him to open up to them.
This is a typical reaction to the unpredictability of a shelter atmosphere. He’s just a touch more suspicious of strangers. Even with this little touch of stranger danger, he adores his Bideawee caretakers. As much as he loves all the attention and care he gets, the shelter is no place for him to live,”s Melissa Treuman, senior director of development and communication, at Bideawee told The Dodo.
This lovely boy becomes a complete lovebug when he is around hoomans!
JP gets all the cuddles/tummy rubs he can handle, and don’t you start with treats! He wolfs down the yummy treat given to him by the staff in one go!
He loves going outside and being with nature as well. He joyfully trails his hoomans wherever and is down for any activity they present.
Still Looking For A Home

It takes him a while to warm up to you, but when he does — expect the time of your life!
Treuman said: “One of our volunteers loves him, she comes every day during her lunch break from work – and has for decades.
But it isn’t just JP’s newly-acquired shyness that is preventing him from being adopted. Again, sadly, his size is also a factor.
According to new data from Hill’s Pet Nutrition’s State of Shelter Pet Adoption Report, while 66 percent of people said they’re likely to adopt a dog from a shelter, only 24 percent of people said they are likely to adopt a large dog. That’s fewer than 1 in 4 individuals. Big dogs, ‘the length of stay for giant canines has doubled due to the fact that 2019’, in keeping with Shelter Animals Count.
But in spite of all that, JP just won’t lose hope!
Deep down he knows his ideal home is out there waiting and he’s going to find it. His friends at the shelter also pitched in by covering Dacre’s adoption fees, as well as a year of Science Diet Senior Vitality dog food for his adopters.
As an older boy, JP would prefer a quiet home, and should also be placed with no young children or other pets.

His heart has plenty of love to give and is more than ready to share that with his new family. Just Give Him a Chance Once – JP Is A kind Hearted Person Who Can Bring Happiness and Laughter To Every Home!!!
