This is Polly, a puppy who had it tough to start with. Abandoned by mother on a main road side all by herself.
That poor thing was went wailing for her mama to come back and there wasn’t a soul around.
And this woman was driving through Georgia and heard some bizarre howling sound in the distance.
Her heart sank and she wondered what she was about to find as she pulled over, drawn by the curiosity of a mother;
Her eyes panning across her surroundings, she noticed a little puppy on the side of the road who appeared to be afraid and all by herself.
A Brave Rescue
Polly had been abandoned there, defenseless and terrified.
Fearing the puppy would dart into traffic, the woman ran across the street.
At first Polly shied away in fright, but the woman was gently reassuring.
But somehow her gentle demeanor broke through Polly’s wall, and she was able to pick up the little pup and bring her to safety.
The woman then took Polly to a vet, where she was treated as soon as they were out of the water.
The tiny pup was in terrible condition — her hair was infested with fleas, ticks and lice.
She needed to stay at the vet hospital until she was completely better.
Polly was physically well again but emotionally she found it difficult.
With her mother gone, she was suspicious of this new human that had saved her.
Building Trust
In her terror Polly attempted even to bite the woman who saved her.
This kind rescuer, however, set her mind to the task of healing Polly.
Gently cupping Polly’s face in her hands, she crooned,
Gradually, this stranger’s kindness made Polly feel at ease.
Days turned into weeks and as Polly felt better, so did her trust.
No longer a scared little puppy, she now craved cuddles and wagged her tail happily.
A New Chapter
Polly became increasingly driven and confident with time.
She became fun and bouncy — playing with toys, loving people.
In good health and with the hope of a fresh start on the horizon it was time for Polly to find her forever home.
Then, thanks again to Sadies Dog Rescue Polly’s story took another beautiful turn.
They matched her with this amazing family that vowed to take good care of her and give her every ounce of love she has ever missed.
A Happy Ending
Warm and loved in her new home, Polly flourished.
She was no longer ruled by fear or left behind, she lived with joy.
It is a story of perseverance, hope and the power of love — or at least undemanding kindness, which Polly found in spades when she met her match several months later.

Guinness’s tale hammers home that every dog is deserving of at least one go at a happy ending.
The Power of Love
However, Polly did not change her ways overnight and it took the patience of everyone involved.
The vet staff were wonderful and so careful with her, also showering impromptu loads of love on her at the same time during this recovery period.
Every gentle interaction gave Polly a little help in soothing her fears and evidence that people could be nice.
The family who adopted her knew it would take time for them to earn Kaylie’s trust.
To give her love, but also give her space when she needed it.
Finding Her Place
Weeks turned into days in Polly’s beautiful forever home and over time, she started to explore her environment with increasing confidence.
She found warm places on the couch to settle in during movie nights.
It was obvious to see her playful side where she would run after toys and do funny things that made everyone LOL.
And Polly soon settled in as a true member of the family.
The joyful barks filled the house with joy of happiness, that how far she had come from the side of the road feeling so very alone.
A Lesson Learned
Polly’s story is more than just a rescue; it is about healing, and the power of love over fear.
While her story is unique, it shows that she and other animals do deserve to be helped.
Each wave of her tail is a new story for other pups who still wait for their happy ending.
