Tyson is one of those dogs with a story that makes your heart weep.
I was so blown away hours later after hearing the story of this solid silver senior boy to even put my thoughts together. This NYC boi was what his rescuers believe spent about five days with his human dead in an apartment next to her.
I just kept thinking about how he was. Was he afraid? How long before he came to the understanding that he was just absolutely alone in this world now?
Even if Tyson had no real clue what exactly was happening, he could definitely feel that something wasn’t right. And then when it came time for this boi to step out and be himself – his dreams crushed in tiny shards…
Tyson’s Devastating Backstory
The most heartbroken, devastated doggo I think I’ve ever seen was Tyson. He literally crawled into his crate and refused to come out when good people from Twenty Paws Rescue, out of Brooklyn, NY came to rescue him.
He was so terrified and isolated that he could not summon the strength to escape. But these seasoned rescuers knew that only one thing heals a broken heart – time!
They waited until Tyson knew they would not harm him. Finally, he allowed them to carry him out of the home he’d lived in for years.
Tyson just looked like he was going through hell watching his owner dying. The clues here included bleeding and a broken heart: he was diagnosed with anemia, and his doctor broke the news to him. He wouldn’t eat or play with other dogs, and spent the entire time in his crate.
Laura was that someone, this heartbroken dog needed to feel understood and comforted.
Learning How To Love Again
Well, Tyson was lucky enough that the TPR team found his perfect ever after mom. Scrubbin a dog – Laura, our long-term volunteer and HUGE dog-lover, who tried her very hardest to give this big boi some peace. And, after just a couple of days it appeared as though she had progressed tremendously!
Tyson started eating properly as well with her gentle approach and just the right mix of love and patience. He also melted into gentle kisses from his new momma, and cuddled 24/7 nearly.
It took some time, but eventually Tyson began to go out and play with other doggos. This senior dog came out of his shell little by little, showing he felt ready to trust a human again.
Sarah’s The One
TPR did attempt to contact Tyson’s owner’s family, but alas, no one could take this gorgeous boi in.
However — that was until a lady called Sarah came along! So one day, this wonderful animal lover contacted TPR and offered Tyson her home for good, and that was definitely the best idea ever!
Tyson fell in love with her the minute he met her when she came into the facility!
Just so much he has been through, and you always want them to come out on top. Rachel, one of the volunteers says, “But for them to connect like this when they first meet, it is just a wonderful feeling.
Let me tell you, he proceeded to melt right into Sarah’s arms and greeted her with paws, and heart wide open!
“I will totally miss him. It’s so sweet though. Laura said: ‘It just makes me happy to see him happy.
It was a tearjerker to see Tyson find “the one” after so much pain. And Rachel and Laura were just there crying tears of joy happy they could get to see this incredible dog find his forever home.
I look forward to have him in my life and just watch him settle in and know, you know, this is my last stop. Sarah puts it succinctly: This is home now, and this is where I live.
Tyson has not so long ago resumed where he left off and is actually on a beautiful adventure with his new momma.
