Maplewood, MO A ten month old puppy named Oakley gripped a silent battle on the other side of these bushes in this Maplewood yard.

She lived through a life of extreme neglect and has an open wound on her neck from where it used to be that was left with calluses.

Oakley is alone and suffering in the future until fate steps in. Not only was she abandoned, but also ignored for both physical and emotional needs — love every dog in this world must receive.

Its isolation from everyone and everything in the backyard stood for all of the abandonment that she had felt throughout most of her life.

A Chance Encounter

Then one day during her normal route, Donna Lochmann of Stray Rescue of St. Louis saw something she had never encountered before…

But as she made her way over the bushes, Oakley’s little head popped out. Even in her suffering state, Oakley welcomed Donna through a swinging tail and bright eyes.

That moment was a turning point; it felt like Oakley could feel her life already on the brink of getting better. More than a simple act of saving, Donna appeared in Oakley’s life at exactly the right moment and changed it forever.

The Rescue

This is an example of what happens when a 10month old female puppy rum to hide, all by herself in the bush. A photo posted by Srsly She Really Loves Sloths™ (@srlschsg) on Apr 17, 2015 at 3:47pm PDT ” On closer inspection we noticed a gaping neck wound.

Oakley was probably strangled by a collar that had become too tight and she endured this pain for days. Her wound was so bad that emergency help has already been triggered.

Donna’s compassion and swift thinking must beyond question have been the turning point in helping this lady who was desperately lacking.

A New Beginning

It was the ride to SRSL headquarters, as Oakley tells it, that brought him into his own anew. She appeared to enjoy the companionship she had found.

Oakley got the best of treatment at the rescue center, she was stitched up and quickly went on to heal. For weeks, the SRSL team have been working with her; taking care of medical issues but also showering Oakley with lota lovin’ to keep her calm and relaxed.

Only a few days later, Oakley’s gory wound was just a small scar — only to remind her what sins of the past can do. The rescue outfit wrote an update: “She had been rescued, came to our clinic where we sewed up her neck wound.

She is now out of the hospital, stitches removed and all healed up… ready for her forever home. Her level of recovery was almost unheard of, a testament to her own and those that took care of her dedication.

A Bright Future Ahead

Now, Oakley is the epitome of health and happiness, ready for her next journey in life. This is being taught to her by Mom, who also fosters this little girl so that she can be adopted into a loving furever home.

The rescue team described: “She’s dog friendly and a happy as can be. Her foster mom is teaching her all about love and manners with a LOT of patience – we could not ask for more.

Oakley’s story is a reminder to us all that with love and attention even the worst cases of neglect can turn around.

The transformation of Oakley is proof that compassion and care changes lives. She was a dirty dog hiding in some shrubs but now thanks to her journey she shines and is ready for adoption.

And Oakley wags her tail, still and gives us the most sparkling eyes as she waits for HER family to come. Reaching the breaking point does not mean you have to break; it is about making something out of nothing.

It is a heart-touch and inspirational story that teaches us even in worst times, little love can change everything. This is not a tale of rescue, but one about the resilience of dogs and how kindness can change everything.

The bond between Oakley and Sophie is a testament to the fact that every dog must get another shot at having some peace. Her story will inspire anyone who knows of it to open their heart and homes for another animal in need.
