When people can’t keep their puppies, most do the responsible thing—taking them to a shelter, giving the animals a shot at a better life.
But sometimes, things don’t go as planned. Shelters can become overcrowded, leaving people frustrated and without options. Sadly, some abandon puppies on the streets or in remote areas, expecting them to survive on their own.
This is the story of five tiny puppies, abandoned in the middle of nowhere, left helpless until someone stepped in to change their fate.
A Shocking Discovery
A small green box caught the eye of a passerby on a scorching day in Anson County, North Carolina, lying at the edge of the woods.
Curious and concerned, the person drew closer, and to their shock, inside the box were five tiny puppies crammed together, panting and exhausted.

The pups were trapped under the blazing sun with no shade or escape. They wouldn’t have survived much longer without help. The heat was unforgiving, and the pups had no food or water, leaving them dangerously weak.
A Swift Rescue
The Good Samaritan quickly sprang into action. Knowing the puppies were too small and weak to climb out on their own, the rescuer carefully transferred them to a crate.
With food and water in hand, the rescuer worked to restore some of their strength, knowing time was of the essence. Once the puppies seemed a little better, it was clear they needed professional care.
The Path to Healing
The rescuer brought the puppies to a vet clinic partnered with Rescue Dogs Rock NYC in North Carolina. It was there that Jackie O’Sullivan spoke about their condition:
“They were weak and dehydrated and apparently had a funny smell. One was not doing well, so we feared parvo, but after some fluids, baths, and good nutrition, so far all five are doing OK.”
The puppies were given names—Sullivan, Snoopy, Sanders, Simon, and Sassafrass—and were estimated to be around six weeks old.
Recovery and a Fresh Start
At the clinic, the pups underwent a complete checkup, received vaccinations, and got treated for parasites through deworming. Slowly, they began to regain their energy and bounce back to health.
O’Sullivan later reflected on their good fortune, saying:
“They are lucky they were found in time.”
Finding Forever Homes
Once the puppies were back on their feet, they were placed in foster care while waiting for adoption. Foster homes gave them a safe, comfortable place to grow and socialize while finding the perfect forever families.
Though it’s not confirmed whether each of them has been adopted, chances are that someone has already stepped in to give these pups the love they deserve.
These five puppies went from being left alone to fight for their lives to being rescued just in time, thanks to a kind stranger. Now, they’re on the path to finding new families and living their best lives.
